Meeting with the Members of the German Association of Obstetricians in Berlin

After learning about pregnancy, women in Germany are advised to find a hebamme. Hebammes are trained obstetricians who have a license allowing them to examine women and their babies, as well as to carry out some medical interventions, including removing the stitches.

Hebammes can be available 24/7 during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. They can help with any issue, e.g. breastfeeding, swaddling, bathing the baby, etc.
On 7 June, the German Association of Obstetricians hosted the representatives of the “Point 33” Non-Governmental Organization and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
During the meeting, Ulrike Geppert-Orthofer, the President of the German Association of Obstetricians, greeted the guests and presented the work of the association.
Liana Badalyan, the Project Manager of the Armenian office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, presented the “Supportive Environment for the Period of Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Postpartum” project jointly implemented with the “Point 33” Non-Governmental Organization. This project includes research on the German experience pertaining to the support provided to women in the above-mentioned period.
Astghik Karapetyan, the President of the “Point 33” Non-Governmental Organization, presented the activities and objectives of the NGO. Afterwards, matters of interest to both parties were discussed.
Please note that research is being carried out within the “Supportive Environment for the Period of Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Postpartum” project on women’s reproductive rights and the medical and care services offered to them. In addition, new media materials are being created.
