Meeting with RA Human Rights Defender

On 5 May, Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan met with President of the “Point 33” Non-Governmental Organization Astghik Karapetyan and lawyer, advocate of the organization Gevorg Sloyan.

During the meeting Astghik Karapetyan presented the “Right to Breastfeed and Family-Friendly Approaches in the Workplace” research carried out within the “Comfortable Environment for Women at Early Stages of Motherhood” project. It was realized in the scope of the “Civil Society Actors As Drivers of Change in South Caucasus and Moldova” project funded by the European Union and implemented by the “People in Need” Non-Governmental Organization.

Problems hindering the exercise of the right to breastfeed in the workplace, the respective legislative regulations and the changes recommended by the “Point 33” NGO were discussed. 

Kristine Grigoryan mentioned in her speech that she welcomed the idea of the proposed changes, “Generally speaking, during all discussions dedicated to women’s economic activation and empowerment  I always raise the question of women facing a number of problems upon their return to work after childbirth or child care leave, one of which is exercising their right to breastfeed.”

The Defender expressed her readiness to ensure public support for the changes proposed by “Point 33.”
